Aguada is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico, located in the western coastal valley region bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It has a history of Spanish colonization, Taíno settlement, and early trade with South America. The town’s original name was San Francisco de Asís de la Aguada, which was shortened to Aguada.

The word Aguada translates to “watery” or “watered down” in Spanish, possibly a reference to the town’s strategic importance as a port in the Mona Passage and the Atlantic Ocean. The municipality has many nicknames such as “La Villa de Sotomayor” or “La Ciudad del Descubrimiento”.
Aguada’s population is spread over 17 barrios and Aguada Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). The town has many attractions such as the Towering San Francisco de Asís church spires, the ruins of Ermita del Espinar, and the Piramide de Aguada. Aguada is also known for its beautiful beaches, eclectic restaurant scene, and modern, eco-friendly Earthships.
