Hormigueros is a municipality located on the western side of Puerto Rico. Hormigueros was officially founded in 1874, making it one of the youngest municipalities in Puerto Rico. The town’s name is derived from the Spanish word “hormiga,” meaning ant, and Hormigueros meaning anthill. It is said to reflect the abundance of ants in the area.

Hormigueros is a relatively smaller town, and accommodations are very limited like in many other small towns around Puerto Rico. However, you’re not far from larger more concurred cities like the towns of San Germán, Cabo Rojo, or Mayagüez where more places to stay options are available.
